La Bastide's Vineyard and Armagnace Cellar
In 1957, when the Barthélémy family bought up La Bastide, they also purchased a 40-hectare vineyard, located on the best Barbotan soils, perched on sunny hills. Named Château de Sandemagnan, after a noble old mansion in the estate, our winery produced its first vintage in 1967.
Ever since, we have been perpetuating the tradition, as we turn into spirit a lumpy green white wine called “Folle Blanche” (White Fool). Every November, we distill it a a huge brass still. The white spirit is then place into oak barrels, when it will age for decades, acquiring amber and tawny shades.
Our cellar is open to visits (in French only) from Monday to Friday, excluding bank holidays.

La Bastide offers mountain bikes to run a wonderful no-car forest track of 50 kilometers: the Voie Verte du Marsan et de l’Armagnac. This track, arranged after the old railway were removed, connects Gabaret to Mont-de-Marsan, snaking across the sunflower hills and vineyards. The no-car regulation makes it the perfect activity for parents and children.
One mile away from La Bastide, the Uby Lake’s banks have been landscaped with great biking, hiking and running tracks.
